The Door Generations
When I was in tenth grade I started going to a youth center called The Door, located in the Bellwood Antis township. The Door was something new to me as I only saw some of my friends there hanging out. I noticed that when I started going, there were a lot of stories about the older people who had graduated. I went to the youth center from tenth grade to my senior year and graduated and left the youth center as a student. After the next two years all my other friends graduated as well. A whole new generation had come up through the youth center's program. While my friends were still in high school I volunteered at the youth center and I even did a summer internship there. I went onto college at Mid-Atlantic Christian University, then to The Altoona Bible Institute and I am now currently at Davis Bible College. I came back for my Fall Break from Davis College and I went to The Door to do some volunteer work. Now that I am here and helping out I hear the same stories about the generation before. The only difference is that the stories consist of me and my friends. It is truly an eye opening event seeing how the generations of stories continue through so many people.
So why did I write my first blog about generations and a youth center called, "The Door"?
I wrote about The Door because, it is where my new life began. I also wrote about generations because I want be remembered. I do not want to live life and be just another grave stone. I want to be that person that you hear stories about, I want to leave a trademark, even if only last couple years after I pass.
So I will leave YOU with these questions. What are you doing to leave an impact that will last a lifetime? Are you challenging yourself daily to live a worthy life of Modelship? What have the generations before you done in order that they are remember and how long will that last?
I like this. I think it is important that more and more teens step up in life, and live not only for themselves, but to serve Christ and others in need. I know from experience the Door is a great place for Teens. Now the Altoona Bible institute? Eh...not so great lol. It is also a great thing to want your name remembered for something great. You should address the problems of Legalism, or the Death penalty haha, i would love to hear your thoughts on those.

ReplyDeleteTwo generations earlier of my life (three yours)are represented by the church that still stands to this day. This has left an impact on your grandparents lives, mine, and your siblings. That generation did not want all to know what was done as they were not looking for gratification from this world. They did this for their love of God and what he had done for them. Always remember it states in the Bible not to let one hand know what the other has done. Do not store up rewards here as they are given in heaven. Also, another thing that you may not have thought of...one small mustard seed. You may have left an impression on someone that you may not realize which can change (you may not see it)them. I love the thought of missionaries spreading the word. Someone may hear their message and continue it on but would the missionary know it? Something to dwell on...
ReplyDeleteThanks you Putsy. Maybe next time you can give me more insight as to grammar and thoughts, or simply something that you would like to hear me talk about. Canuceeit, thanks for the comment. I'm not looking for gratification, just recognition, I don't want to be forgotten. The Bible passage you are quoting comes from Matthew near I believe chapter six. That is talking about actions and the reward God gives you for being humble and serving him. I'm not looking for the worldy who-rah from people, I strive to earn that from God by being humble in what I do. I simply just want to leave and impact on people and places. The end of your statement, talks about missionaries. They may not always know about the little things that can happen from there "seeds", but they trust in God enough that he gives them comfort that their actions are for something and do not go to waste. FreeYourMind thanks for the comment, but those are some big ideas to write upon. Maybe something that could be progressive. ha Thank you for all your comments.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I have been taught throughout my life is that you never know where influence starts, so I have consciously tried to live my life knowing that no matter what I do - good or bad - I am influencing the lives around me.
ReplyDeleteI like this post of your Sir Matthew, because it sparks that little reminder, in the minds of those who will read this that they are making a mark in the world - regardless of their intentions - so why not be intentional and righteous about the legacy they are leaving behind.
Matt woow this is some deep stuff i think that even if we pick on someone or put them down in away way we have to understand that there are people doing the same to us we are all guilty of it one way or another.
ReplyDeleterealy made me relise how i treat people in diffrent aspects i totaly agree that forgiveness is always awesome
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see the positive impact you're having!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see what kind of impact "The Door" is having on young lives, it is my husbands dream to have something similar here in Windsor, there really is nothing for teens outside of school activities.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing where life can take you and how you get there?
ReplyDeleteMat, Dude thanks for sharing this. Its deep stuff
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for commenting, it means alot. Liz very good points and I'm glad you like it. Anonymous two, have you ever considered opening something like the door? I'd be willing to help in any way possible with that.
